Though their interest in private equity continues to grow, family offices tend to be picky when it comes to deal selection. Most of the 311 family offices that participated in the UBS/Campden Wealth Global Family Office Report 2018 make one to five direct or co-investment deals per year.
Fears about a market downturn aren’t dampening public pensions’ desire to commit to funds. Most U.S.-based public pension funds expect to commit to four to nine private equity funds over the next 12 months, according to 500 pensions tracked by Preqin.
Family offices’ appetite for alternative investments continues to grow. Private equity tops the list, with 61 percent of family offices targeting private equity this year, up from 58 percent in 2016, according to 1,000 family offices tracked by Preqin.
